Project 3 - Final Plans, Section & Perspectives

Brief Explanation

The concept for the structure of the building is based off on the idiom "going off at a tangent" in its literal form - because digital art is like the idiom, where it differs from traditional art but is still a part of the artistic world. Therefore the gallery's structure is based off on a series of circles and their tangents manipulated to fit the galleries purposes.

Circulation also plays an important role in forming the final structure of the gallery. A continuous circuit is adopted for the gallery, where one room leads to another without much deviations - i.e. once you have chosen a direction to start, you will be directed by the buildings layout around the whole gallery until you return to the point where you started.

The rooms are also placed in certain areas suited for their purposes. The smaller gallery spaces are mainly located on the ground level - to avoid natural sunlight, while larger gallery spaces are located in areas where natural sunlight can be manipulated.

The courtyard is strategically located in the centre of the site, allowing it to become very part of the visitors experience as they walk through the gallery site.

Light control for the office, workshop and the large sculpture display area are controlled by panels, which can be opened and closed. When opened, they allow light through, and when closed, they provide a screen for digital projection. Note:The gallery is mostly lit by artificial lighting which can be seen in the perspective rendered vignettes.

The apartment space is located towards the back of the site, providing separation for the gallery visitors but at the same time still part of the whole structure itself.
